Race and Justice

The challenges for the U.S. in the twenty-first century will certainly be greatly complicated by the explosive growth in immigration from Latin America and Asia. This new wave of immigrants is changing ethnic and racial politics, the character of cities, and assumptions about assimilation into American society.

We are only beginning to understand, for instance, what makes young immigrants, especially those of the second generation, vulnerable to victimization and violence.

NCCD has pioneered several examinations of these issues. These efforts have already yielded significant benefits by critically analyzing theories of immigrant violence, gathering data on these issues, offering recommendations for change, and working with communities to implement reforms.
